KAC Pays D400, 000 as Counterpart Contribution to GAMWORKS for water facilities to 10 communities

Kerewan Area Council (KAC) on Tuesday presented a cheque of D400, 000 as second tranche of payment to Gambia Agency for Public Works GAMWORKS for construction of boreholes for 10 communities in Lower, Central and Upper Baddibou in the North Bank Region.

The following communities will be cluster to enable them have clean and safe drinking water includes; Samba Musu, and Jabel Satou of lower Baddibou, Kuli Kunda Wollof and Maida Biram Penda, Mband Kunda and Galloya, Kerr Sheikh Taal all in Central Baddibou, also Banta and Yuna cluster villages and Wallalan  are in  Upper Baddibou.

The presentation was held at council chamber in Kerewan. The initial payment of D500, 000 was earlier paid to GAMWORKS as it demonstrated council fullest commitment to pay counterpart contribution. .

Presenting the cheque to GAMWORKS, Malamin IL Bojang chairman of Kerewan Area Council reiterated council commitment to plough back development projects to taxpayers.

He said the payment of D400, 000 aims to ensure timely implementation of the project, noting that water is a priority need of the beneficiaries’ communities.

Chairman Bojang thanked GAWORKS for their long standing relationship with the council, pointing that 2019 has witness implementation of major projects, citing construction of sub treasury office in Ndungu Kebbeh, office and guest house and construction of Kaur car park in Farafenni.

Chairman Bojang pointed out that there is need for government to enter in to performance contract with local council, through providing funds to implement projects that are gear towards improving lives of tax payers.

He commended Ward Development Committees for their efforts in working with their villages development committees (VDCs) on the prioritization of development projects.

Abdlie Khan, Finance Director of KAC calls on institutions and communities to pay their dues and taxes to the council to enable it provide basic social amenities and services.

He noted that the council will continue to fund projects that would transform lives and livelihood of the peoples.

Alasan Kieta, Director of Planning and Development at KAC said the project will address the growing water needs.  

Receiving the cheque on behalf GAMWORKS management, Furu Gomez hailed KAC for their commitment to timely payment of counterpart contributions.

He said the payment demonstrated council commitment to the welfare of it tax payers. Gomez uses the moment to call on Kerewan Area Council to make payment for other sub projects in due course to enable council to benefit from GAMWORKS project.
