Former Gambia Army Lance Corporal, Alagie Kebbeh, Tuesday says a gun bullet is still inside his thigh, adding he was shot by Edward Singhatey in 1994 on suspicion of him taking part in the allege 11 November coup plot.
Mr. Kebbeh, 62, was testifying before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission as the 44 witness, says prior to the 11 November incident that Edward Singhatey took his gun from him and threatened to shoot him.
“I was sitting at the corner of the guardroom and Sanna Sabally and Edward Singhateh were with me in the room. Edward shot me and the bullet pass through my left side and it landed into my right thigh and I felt down. Edward rushed to finish me and Sanna shouted at him. Stop,” he says.
Kebbeh, who was among the 12 intake of the Gambia National Army in 1989, says as he went back to his residence of Bahamas at Yundum, he heard gun shots and, he evacuated his family to Banjulinding.
At Banjulunding, he says Lamin Fatty and Batch Samba Jallow both soldiers arrested him and put him inside the boot of a car for about 5 hours.
He says he was later taken to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital formerly RVTH in Banjul for medication where Peter Singhateh met him and said to him “Kebbeh you are lying down here, this is small for you, we could have killed you.”
He says after his discharged at RVTH where he spent about four months, says he was taken to Mile 2 Prison and detained for four years with no charge.
He describes the then prison officers to had been ‘very wicked with no mercy’ whom he says ramshackle him while using crotches, adding “I was put in cell number 2. They put chain around my legs with my crochets’ some prison officers were very wicket.”
Meanwhile, he debunks Lieutenant Colonel Baboucarr Sanyang’s testimony on stating that he was involve in the allege November 11 coup plot against the Junta regime in 1994.
In Kebbeh’s testimony, Kebbeh says “I went to Baboucarr Sanyang immediately I close from work. I never saw Baboucarr Sanyang, so if Baboucarr Sanyang say I went to him and asked him to fall in men’s that is not true.”
