The Program Manager of the National Council for Civil Education (NCCE) has said that majority of Gambians now interested in politics compared to Jammeh’s era.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Voice, Yusupha Bojang disclosed that the current system has created the environment for Gambians to participate in the country’s political activities without fear.
“The country is politically stable and things are going very normal and majority of Gambians are more excited nowadays to participate in politics. The environment is relatively open and people have faith in the leadership.”
He added that Gambians are now enjoying the new found democracy, “before,” he continued “when we talk to people about issues related to polities they acted uninterested because they were afraid of Jammeh. Things are very different today the way people are participating is just amazing.”
He said democracy is a very good system it gives every citizen the freedom to speak their mind, “and NCCE will continue doing its best to ensure that Gambians are well sensitize on their democratic rights and how best they could avoid been intolerance because there cannot be a good democratic dispensation without political tolerance.”
Talking about political tolerance, he said if there is political tolerance people will have the opportunity to belong to wherever they want to belong without harassment, “especially the minority who are always vulnerable in democratic sittings”.
To achieve their mandate he said “people should also understand that the NCCE cannot do it alone we need the collaboration of everybody to be able to achieve our targeted goals.”
He encouraged the party leaders to advice their supporters to be role model in their support for their parties and let them not insult each other to avoid confrontation and problem so that the country can move forward and remain peaceful.
