In promoting quality health and accessible to healthcare delivery in the country, Child Fund The Gambia in partnership with Map International has donated drugs to the government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Health. The presentation of the drugs was held at the Central Medical store in Kotu on Wednesday, April 24.
The medical drugs in the 20 foot container include Amoxicolin powder, Acetaminophen, Clindarycin hydrochloride among others.
Musukuta Komma, Country Director Child Fund The Gambia, disclosed that her office recently donated three pallets of different pharmaceutical items and medical supplies to the Ministry courtesy of the humanitarian NGO Heart to Heart international.
She disclosed that Child Fund The Gambia has supplied health facilities with medicines, Tom shoes and children clothing through their country wide Gift in Kind (G.I.K) program and the donation was part of her office supports to complement the efforts of Gambia government in the crucial health sector.
According to her, the supports will strengthen Child Fund’s core intent of helping the deprived, excluded and vulnerable children. The items, she added, will also help to make a monumental difference in collective efforts to ensure quality, affordable and accessible healthcare delivery in the country.
Komma revealed that West Cost Region has been their operational jurisdiction in terms of sponsorships; Child Fund The Gambia has constructed clinics with well-equipped facilities with essential drugs and also providing salaries of some personnel that are providing services to the children and community members.
She outlined Child Fund local partners, which includes Tujereng TB clinic, Ding Ding Yiriwaa Federation, Foni Ding Ding and Saama Kairo and all within the West Coast region.
Komma further revealed that her office is currently running responsive, inclusive, parenting education program in 30 communities across the Lower River Region, Central River and North Bank Region and also enlightened the issue of proper hand washing, clean environment, birth registration, welfare services, safe pregnancy, delivery and proper medical checkups.
She anticipated that together their will be a leap of differences in The Gambia health sector.
Karamba Keira, Deputy Permanent Secretary MoH stated that government of The Gambia cannot do all especially the health sector, and he said the items donated are geared toward assuring the quality of healthcare services.
“You can have the best surgeons in the world but if the materials are lacking then quality services cannot be achieved,” he pointed out.
He recalled that the donation is the second time Child Fund The Gambia is donating medical items to MoH and ensuring that the items will help to improved quality healthcare in the country.
Babading Sabally, Director of Pharmaceuticals Services commended the board and staff of Child Fund for good job in the country, adding that their mandate is to continue provides essential medical services.
