The Gambia on Monday observed International Nurses Day aimed at celebration nurses works they are rendering to the people across the world.
A number of nurses observed the day through in a March pass from the Arch 22nd square to the school of Nursing and Midwifery.
Speaking at the gathering minister of health, Dr Ahamdou Lamin Samateh said: ““plans are underway for structure adjustments and provision of amenities to make your work environment most conducive.”
He added: “we will do everything humanly possible to fix all nurses’ stations of our hospitals and health facilities with amenities for well-deserved breaks and rest periods.”
He said that efforts will be strengthened in providing basic equipment in each health facility in the country to deliver quality health services.
He said: “as your minister of health I want to assure you that I am on your side. I praise your contribution to the health of this country.”
He described the nurse work force as the “larges” adding they are responsible for over 80% of care episode and 85% of contact between patients and health care workers.
Dr. Samateh said “your deliver care to the people at the most hard to reach communities with minimal resources and under unfavorable environment.”
Lamin Marong, president of the Nurses Association said: “I assure you of our support all the way today to commend the EFSTH Nurses Association for recognizing the work of Nurses at their recently conducted awards ceremony.”
He urged the management of EFSTH to support the association finally in their endeavor.
He said: “in the Gambia nurses continue to be the group presents everywhere at all time. We continue to provide health care to individuals, families and communities.”
