Alieu Momar Njai, chairman Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has warned political parties in Gambia to desist from receiving outside funding.
According to him, as the body mandate to organise and conduct election in the country it is their duty and responsibility to make sure that Gambian register political parties are well regulated and are abstained from any outside influence or interference.
Njai was speaking in office along the Bertil Harding Highway during an oversight visit of members of the select committee on local government, Land, IEC and ombudsman of the National Assembly recently.
He observed that outside funding for political party would be dangerous and risky, noting all his office is only Gambian funds and sponsors their register political parties.
Hon. Musa Amul Nyassi, chairman of the select committee on local government, Land, IEC and ombudsman of the National Assembly noted that there visit is to excise there oversight public scrutinizing as mandated by the National Assembly.
