Turkey donates to SIC

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency   (TIKA) Friday donates food items to the Supreme Islamic Council (SIC).

The donated items includes 30 bags of sugar, 20 packets of tea, 50 carton of pasta, 20 carton of Oil and 200 bags of rice.

In receiving the donated items, Demba Jallow a representative of the Islamic council said the gift means a lot to the SIC.

“This is not the first time that we are benefitting from the Turkey government. We have a good relationship with them and pray that it continue,” he said.

He thanked the Turkish Government for their priceless contribution to the Gambians especially during the Holy Month Ramadan.

“Allah said whatever one gives someone to break his or her fast they are given double rewards. Finally I want to thank the Turkish Embassy in The Gambia for the tremendous works they are have doing in the country and the respect they have for our country,” he said.

The Tika country representative, Mehmet Akif Eyigum said Tika as body representing the Turkish Government in the Gambia they deemed it necessary to   provide technical support to the Supreme Islamic Council.

“We at Tika believe that collaborate with SIC to support the poor in The Gambia and this is why we are exactly here today to hand-over this food items,” he stressed.

The Turkish Ambassador to The Gambia, Ismail Safe expressed delight with the gesture of his government towards the Gambia and assured the SIC of his government’s continued support.

He said the donation could have come at better time than the month of Ramadan “The relationship between The Gambia and Turkey is at a very good stage and Turkey would feel if they failed to help West African during the Holy of Ramadan”.

“We have also handed similar donations to the First Lady Fatoumatta Bah Barrow foundation for them to share it with the Muslims,” he added.
