Banjul to become Waste Free City –PRO Bah

 Banjul City Council (BCC) public relations officer (PRO) Modou Lamin Bah has assured that the Island city will soon become waste free city, despite the high level of waste confronting the streets and homes.

According to him, the challenges confronting the Council is lack up vehicle for the collection of the waste from every homes  and streets  in the city, stressing   that Council will do all it can  to make sure that the city  is waste free and clean like before.

Waste management is a major challenge throughout the world especially overcrowded cities and towns in most of the developing countries especially Africa.

However, in recent time   waste management is becoming a thing of the past for the residents of Banjul as over 3,000 waste bins have been distributed in compounds and Streets in order to make the city waste free.

The Council spokesperson said the mechanism is put in place by the council as part of waste management control system.

Bah commended   BCC cleansing department for their effort in making sure that waste are collected from every compound, noting that these are all part of the urban- based waste management which was initiated by the Lord Mayor since she assumed office.

Alhaji   Baboucarr Manneh, Manager Cleansing Service Department BCC, commended the Council for their effort and commitment to making sure that the city is waste free.

He pleaded for vehicle to be adequately provided to the department to ease their work and calls on central government to assist the Council for the development of the city
