CRC Chairman Describes Consultation Gambian in Diaspora Timely

Justice Cherno Sulayman Jallow, chairman Constitutional Review Commission has described consultation with Gambian in Diaspora timely and commended the citizenry far and near for their active participation in the reviews process.

Members of the Constitutional Review Commission and advocate group Right 2 Know, a Gambian in diaspora yesterday discussed the diaspora’s potential for   reforms in times of transition under the theme “Gambia conference on reforms and democracy.”

“The participation of every Gambian in the constitutional review process, will allow the commission to draft a constitution that serves the interest of all citizens and generations unborn,” he said adding that it will enable commissioners to effectively carry out their mandate.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Gambians Abroad, Mamadou Tangara commended   organisers for initiating a viable idea to support national development.

According to him, participation of the diaspora will have a remarkable impact on the political and democratic system, enabling sound governance in new and the current transition.

He observed that it will also inform his ministry about the affairs of the diaspora, while citing the government’s commitment in partnering with the diaspora in the new dispensation.

Jeggan Grey-Johnson Advocacy and Communication Coordinator, Africa Regional Office [AFRO] and the initiator of the event, said the conference will forge strong partnership between the diaspora and the CRC.

He said the Right 2 Know represents the diaspora division that wants to participate in the country’s new democracy.

For Participants Sidi M Sanneh hailed the event as promising, it’s important for the CRC to keep an open mind as far as the rights of Gambians are concerned as they move to design what is expected to be a people center constitution.
