 TRRC Receives Office Furniture, Equipment

Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission has received office furniture and equipment from United Nations through the ministry of justice.

A ceremony held at the Dunes hotel on Tuesday in Kotu has materials of database, office furniture and equipment.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, chairman of the commission, Dr Lamin Sise expressed with delight about the gesture while urged for continues support of UNDP to the commission.

“Your support for efforts here in the Gambia that gone through difficult is precisely what is needed,” he said.

A UN resident representative, Mrs Aisata De, said “the ceremony provides the platform to renew the UN’s commitment and support to not only this Commission but to the country’s overall transitional justice process.”

“The material already made available to the Commission which we are officially handing over is worth GMD 15 million, including simultaneous translation equipment under procurement,” she added.

She assured UN commitment to continue supporting the country through technical support, adding “this includes outreach, statement-taking, witness protection, reporting and investigations.”

Representing the minister of Justice, Mr Hussein Thomasi, the special adviser to the justice minister, promised to put the materials into good use.

He commended the UN for the goodwill support through the transitional justice of the country while commended the truth commission for their good work.

Mr Thomasi further sought continues support from UN to the country especially in the transitional justice process of the country.
