Gambia Senior Secondary School has graduated six hundred (600) students in different field of academia which coincided with sixty years celebration of the School.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Banjul, Principal of the School, MrLamin MB Jaiteh, described education as primary tool for success in life.
“The 60 years challenge was never an easy task but GSSS continued to address those challenges in order to shift from the traditional curriculum to a more holistic curriculum in raising the academic flag higher,” he said.
Mr MB Jaiteh expressed with delight about the graduation and sixty years celebration of the school, adding the school is proud to produce best results every year.
“The school has a well committed teaching staff of 59, 35 university graduates, 19 HTC holders and 5TC holders which he said are well trained by educating the future leaders of The Gambia in respecting the view of others no matter what ethnic group, colour, race or religion they belong, the school inculcate in their students,” he said.
According to him, Gambia senior secondary school has excelled by participating in both national and international competitions, adding that the school has participated in Robotic competition In Mexico.
“In Gambia Senior Secondary School we inculcate physical, moral, and spiritual values in the students for future challenges in life,” he said
He said: “Good human relationship cannot be learned from the book alone but from real life situations.”
He urged the graduates to maintain the high level of discipline at all time in life because the school has inculcate that good moral attitude they should maintain because discipline is vital in any human life.
He urged the graduates as they live the school they would face lots of challenges but should take up the opportunities at their doorstep and pursue them with vigour, vigilance, vitality, courage in order to succeed.
Meanwhile, he urged them to stay focused on principles that are worthy and further their education in different areas of academic and avoid ‘unwise choices’ that might lead them to negative consequences in the future.
He urged them to be patriotic and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country and think positively and engaged in useful activities that would benefit them and the nation at large.
He commended parents and guardians for the trust and faith they have in the school and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for the valuable assistance.
For her part, Mrs Anna Secka Saine,Senior, who was speaking as a guest speaker urged the graduates to be committed and determined while she shared her experience with them.
“Determination and passion increased chances of being successful. Don’t be frustrated and never give up in life, she urged them.
Mayor of Banjul, Rugie Malick Lowe, also urged the graduates ‘to think big and make connections in knowledge’.
Ndey Yassin Camara, an ex-student and 2016 best student who received 12 prize awards currently pursuing a degree in biomedical science in Canada, urged students to be discipline and work hard and have self belief and faith in themselves.
