Dr. Karamo N.M Sonko chairman and founder, Heeno International on Sunday presided over the launching ceremony of a book authored by the Former highly respected diplomat who doubles as the President of Majmou Atou Rawdatul Majaalis Islamic organization based in Brikama, West Coast Region, Baba Abubakar Drammeh.
The title of the new Book is: “My Story; from Sintet-Brikama-Egypt and Beyond”.
The launching ceremony took place at author’s native village of Sintet in Foni Jarrol District of West Coast Region thus attended by the National Assembly of the area, Hon. Alhagie Sankung Jammeh, family members and cross section of the communities of Sintet and beyond.
In his launching speech, Dr. Sonko informed the gathering that Mr. Baba Abubakar Drammeh’s Book captures the ethnic diversity of the Sintet village, the religious knowledge of Drammeh kunda family handed down for generations.
According to Sonko, Mr. Drammeh’s Book reflect the beauty of Sintet village, it’s symbolic importance as the Gambia’s “Village for All” adding that the Book is also good for curious reader or researcher looking for contemporary religious issues among Muslim themselves.
He said the author bravely posited the opposing Islamic doctrines of Sufism on the one hand and Salafism-Wahabism on the other hand noting that the Book contained 37 chapters.
The main highlights (chapters) of Mr. Drammeh’s Book includes: The role of the youth in The Gambia, Women and Islam in The Gambia, the reason for following the Sight of the moon with Mecca, The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, the impact of Music on a human being among others.
For his part the author, Baba Abubakar Drammeh who so a well trained Arabic Islamic scholar from the traditional schools of Sintet and Brikama, thanked all those who grace the ceremony including his family members.
Drammeh said his new Book contained comprehensive information covering the personal experienced of him (Drammeh) as well as his socio-economic, cultural, historical, educational, health, religious and political matters.
The Book also contained issues pertaining to women’s empowerment, youth and sports; it also highlights Egyptian civilization, the role of Al-Azhar in the spread of knowledge, brief discussions on the role of the Egyptian leader, Jamal Abdel Nasser with respect to his constant support for the political struggled.
