Sandu Residents Demand Good Feeder Roads

Residents of Sandu District in Upper River Region have complained over poor condition of the road linking their communities to the Lamin Koto- Passamas road and demand for its construction.

The feeder road about 20 Kilo meters  links Sareh Jallo, Sareh Gubu, Sareh Demba Toro, Darsilameh and then it goes to the road linking Lamin Koto- Passamass, residents of these communities says the road is  in bad condition and needs support.

Speaking to The Voice in series of interview recently, Baidy Bah, the village head of Sareh Demba Toro village said the approximately 20Km feeder road linking Sareh Jallo to the Lamin Koto- Passamas road is in a poor condition.

“The poor condition of this road causes challenges for us (inhabitants of the zone). “We travel through this road to reach Diabugu Health Centre but we find it difficult to reach there owing to the road’s condition,” he said.

According to him, the road is narrow, rough and has numerous holes that made people find difficult to pass across it, noting the condition of the road usually destroy their motor bike, horse cart and cars.

Haruna Bah, resident of Sareh Gubu village said travelling to Diabugu is a nightmare for the inhabitants of this zone, especially during the rainy season.

“During the rainy season we used to park most of our transportation meant and travel by foot. Because when travel with our cars or horse carts their wheel could sink in the soil due to the rain,” he stressed.

Bah lamented that this horrendous situation affects transportation of good and service in this part of the country.

He explained that that the heads of these rural communities had been calling on government to construct the feeder road but the authorities did not make any positive respond regarding the construction of the road.

Demba Sowe, a native of Sareh Gubu village narrated   the terrible situation of the road causes numerous challenges for the inhabitants.

He added that building this road would ensure rapid developments in Sandu district particularly in the business sector.

“Sometimes we would like to transports our commodities to Basse but we won’t do that instant because mostly trucks would not reach certain communities due to the bad condition of the road, he narrates their ordeals.

Hassan Bah, Alkali of Nawdeh village said constructing the road would be a great benefit for the region since it would enable them to reach Basse easily.

Meanwhile, they all called on government to construct the 20 kilo meters feeder road so as ease the transportation of goods and services in that zone and improve their living good conditions.
