The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (TANGO) will lead society activists in a Protest against sexual violence with a march from Kairaba Avenue to Westfield Youth Monument.
Today Thursday protest is meant to support victims as well to raise public awareness on sexual violence which is widespread in the Gambian society. The march will be held under the theme: “Our Silence is their protection”
“Stand Up Against Sexual Violence Today to Protect Your Daughter Tomorrow. Rape Destroys Human Dignity! No Woman Deserves Rape. No Society Deserves Rapists. Expose Them. Rape is unjustifiable under any circumstances and for any reason. For that matter we wish to stage a public gathering at the Youth Monument where we will hear stories of victims and speeches from various members of the society,” the statement obtained said.

On Friday 28 June 2019 former July 22 Beauty Queen Fatoumatta Toufah Jallow hosted a press conference to narrate her ordeal of sexual violence meted out to her by the former president Yaya Jammeh.
Since she break the silence more women have decided to also narrate their experiences of sexual violence meted out to them by various men.
The latest, alleged accused man is a senior government official, Melville Robertson Roberts who has now been interdicted by the Ministry of Justice pending investigations of his alleged acts of sexual violence.
Jallow’s public testimony gave several other women courage to go public with their stories.
