NFTR Gambia chapter members meet Atlas MD

The Network of Finance and Tax Reporters (NFTR) Gambia chapter, executive members calls on the managing director of Atlas Energy Company at his office at Old Jeshwang alongside with the managing director Bayba Financial Services.

The delegation was led by the president of the NFTR- Gambia chapter Abdoulie Nyockeh.

The purpose of the visit was to meet the ATLAS manager Mr. Hally Mass Jobe and brief him about the formation of the network and its objective and its related activities.

Speaking at the courtesy call meeting the president of the (NFTR Gambia chapter) Mr. Abdoulie Nyockeh explained that the network was formed as a result of a media engagement and training that he was lucky to attend in Kigali, Rwanda, this year.

He said the training was organized by African Tax administration secretariat based in South Africa and 72 communicators and journalists attended the media engagement and training with the aims to expose them to better report on tax and tax related matters.

He said at the end of the training there was recommendation made for journalists to form a media Tax network within their countries that will help the tax authority in educating and creation more awareness on the importance of tax payment.

He added this is what led to the formation of the NFTR Gambia chapter and the network comprises members from various media outlets and communicators in the Gambia.

He further said, the objective of the network is to ensure that there is a fair play on tax payment between the government, business community and the private sectors.

He also informed Mr. Jobe about the formation of this network and the level of preparation to launch the network.

Mr. Hally Mass Jobe managing director ATLAS Energy Company commended the team for   formation of the network as tax is cause for concern, and there is need for transparency in the payment of taxes.

He noted that the role of the media in taxation and creating more awareness is good, while he challenged the NFTR Gambia chapter to show more commitment to the network and deliver up to expectation between the government, private sector and the
