Ebrima K. Dampha, Governor of North Bank Region has said that The Gambia is a tax base economic and certainly without payment of tax, ‘no development can take place in this country.’
“Even our development partners who come around to support us will look at what we are doing first as our local contribution, so I am calling on all and sundry to pay their taxes in other to move this country,” he told journalists recently at his office.
He said everybody have their own various way of paying taxes both public and civil services, thus, if everybody pay tax Gambia will not have huge tax arrears all over the country.
He explained that if one goes to the Area Councils they have lots of tax arrears across the country, so in that situation bringing development will be difficult.
“We need to pay our taxes, because our development partners who come around to support us also look at what we are doing first as our local contribution, and if taxes are not paid our local or development partners will not be able to do so because our people are reluctant to pay their taxes,” he said.
Governor Dampha emphasized that the taxes that the people are paying are used to build good roads, bridges and among other developmental issues, so if taxes are not paid all those development will not place even daub we have partners.
He said government cannot do this alone it has to come from taxation because Gambia is a tax base Economic, thus, he encourage everybody to be tax compliance and on time, noting paying tax is once a year.
“If rates and taxes are paid their will development in the fourth front of this country and that way the Gambia become a paradise for everybody just like how we perceive it to be,”
He commended Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) for the amount they collect in 2018, saying the way GRA is working if everybody works that way, there will be lot of development.
He urges Gambians to be dedicated and committed to the development of the Gambia and her people.
