The Gambian Ambassador to the United States of America was nominated and subsequently received the Congresswoman Barbara C. Jordan Award, the ministry of foreign affairs announced here on Tuesday.
The prestigious award was given to Ambassador Dawda D. Fadera in recognition of his selfless and distinguished community outreach aimed at engineering positive social transformation for the greatest good of society
The accolade was presented by Dr. Stephne Coney, CEO and Founder, National Stop the Violence Alliance Inc., which is a non-profit organisation that seeks to empower communities through outreach programmes and helping to unite all stakeholders through the principles of non-violence campaign.
In his acceptance speech, Ambassador Fadera offered sincere thanks and appreciation to the CEO, Dr. Coney, for the huge honour and further noted that this is a reflection of the strong and growing bilateral relations between the Government of The Gambia and the United States of America.
Ambassador Fadera further agreed with the awarding organisation that the award also took into account the remarkable progress being made by the transitional Government under the leadership of President Adama Barrow, following more than two decades of dictatorship and misrule.
He further said the Gambian embassy in Washington, DC, has decided to rededicate this noble award to President Barrow, and the entire people of The Gambia.
Fadera pointed out that “awards like this serve as a huge moral booster for the recipients to do more.” He thanked Dr. Stephne Coney for the powerful endorsement of the work of Gambians through the Embassy of The Gambia in Washington, DC.
