About fifty people sustained injuries and eight arrested during a protest yesterday Wednesday organized by Citizen of West Coast Region demanding better service delivery from the Brikama Area Council (BAC).
The Gambia Red Cross Society WCR (West Coast Region), branch, revealed that about 50 peoples that sustained injuries were referred to the Brikama District Hospital / Health Center for medical treatment.
Dubbed as ‘ #Occupy BAC’ permit application to hold protest was reject, but the organizers insisted to go ahead with the protest due to unbearable condition of West Coast Region markets in various communities.
Protesters were on the streets chanting ‘we want peace’ and ‘BAC must deliver’ later the Anti-riot Police fired tear gas at protesters and chasing them for demanding better service delivery from the Brikama Area Council.
‘#OccupyBAC’ said that: “We deeply regret to inform the public that the following individuals are arrested and they are still in detention namely: Ahmad Ceesay , Muhammed Darboe Alias Julamansa, Alieu John Ndure, Buba Jammeh, Musa Juwara, Kaddy Dukureh, Ensa Dampha and Amdou Ceesay. Meanwhile, The Voice was reliable informed after some hours in detention all eight were granted bail. All efforts to reach to the police spokesperson remain futile.
