Omar A Jallow, a member of the death squat of former president Yahya Jammeh has confessed to participating in the killing of Haruna Jammeh and the alleged foreign mercenaries in 2005.
Testifying before the Truth Reconciliation and Reparation Commission on Tuesday, Mr. Jallow said “we tied the rope around his neck…Sanna Manjang told us to pull the rope and we pulled the rope.”
He added that: “Sanna Manjang was sitting on the car and he came and stamped on his neck (Haruna Jammeh) and he died. Alieu Jeng caught one side of the rope and I catch one side of the rope and we pulled and he died.”
Omar A Jallow is a serving member of the Gambia Armed Forces. Meanwhile, on the massacre of foreign nationals in 2005, Jallow said they picked the victims around Cocoa Ocean ant took them to Kanilai where they killed the victims cold blooded and threw them into a well.
In 2005, over 30 foreign nationals were reported to have been killed by the former regime.
But he claimed that he didn’t shot at any of the victims saying he was bringing the victims to his killer colleagues to kill.
“We went to Kanilai and drove behind the fence of Yahya Jammeh’s home and head to Cassamance….We will bring the person (victims) around the well and we will shot the person and he will fall into the well,” he told the Truth Commission.
He said the last victim he went to bring gave him 100 Euro and beg him to allow him to say his last prayer, adding as he allowed the victim to say his last prayer that Sanna Manjang shot at the victim and killed him.
