NCAC Organises Refresher Training for Official Tour Guides On Sites Interpretation

The members of the Official Tour Guides were Friday received further training from the The National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC). The tour guides were trained on comprehensive interpretation of the available historical cultural sites in destination Gambia.

The daylong training taken place at the National Museum was also meant to strengthening the capacity of the tour guides and as well used to sought for their support to always bring more visitors to those sites which among are Fort Bullen; Juffureh-Albreda; Kunta Kinteh Island; Janjangbureh historical town; community and National Museum; Arch 22, Kankurang Center in Janjangbureh; Kerr Batch and Wassu Stone Circles; river Gambia among other historical sites in the country.

During the training the tour guides were further exposed to the cultural assets of The Gambia; importance of interpreting heritage sites; both community and international festivals in the country. In addition they learned more about the Janjangbureh Kankurang Museum; Juffureh Revamp Project; customer service presentation among.

Commenting on the refresher training, Hassoum Ceesay, acting Director General National Centre for Arts and Culture dilated on the importance of the training which he said will allow tour guides to give real and authentic interpretation of the cultural heritage sites.

He added further that it will help to avoid confusion when it comes to interpretation of those sites when tourists visit them “because giving different interpretation to a site by different tour guides will confuse visitors and the message on the significance about the sites will be lost.”

DG Hassoum applauded tour guides for their good jobs and encouraged them to do more to sell the country’s cultural heritage sites to the visitors. He assured them of NCAC’s further supports while he as well called on other stakeholders to give them support too.
