Mama Tamba Youth Empowerment Association, recently organized training for farmers on processing of Moringa and Olevera to Soap in the Upper Baddibou District in North Bank Region.
The training was meant to boost economic activities of farmer in the region. The project continue to trained women and youths on agro forestry, bee keeping, soil management, poultry production, entrepreneurship development, compost making and value addition through processing and preservation technique.
Tamba Jammeh, Coordinator of Mama Tamba Youth Empowerment Association of Illiasa commended the seven beneficiary communities of the Global Environment Facility funded project on Youth Empowerment and Environment restoration of Baobolong wetland area of Upper Baddibou.
He noted that the implementation of UNDP Small grant one year project aimed to empower women and youths to spearhead the restoration of Baobolong wetland through building the capacity on eucalyptus and other indigenous trees.
He also said training has empowered farmers to raise over 5000 trees of different type’s ready for planting along the wetland.
He pointed out that the implementation of project has contributed immensely in creating awareness on agro forestry and building community resilience on climate change.
According to him, the project will embark on massive mangroves planting together with others plants in august as part of efforts on the restoration of loss depleting environmental hazards.
Binta Marong of Jumansar Koto and Sarta Jadama of Illiasa expressed their appreciation to Mama Tamba Youth Empowerment Association for building their capacity on environmental issues, citing bee keeping that were no go area for rural women.
The duo’s said the recent training on soap making using Moringa and Oloevria will obvious contribute to the promotion of health and wellbeing, noting that both have medicinal value.
The participants assured the project officials of their commitment to planting of Moringa along backyard and farm boundaries.
