The Movement of Concerned Youths of West Coast Region dubbed #OccupyBAC responded to a request for dialogue by Brikama Area Council to look into the demands group.
Yesterday meeting was held at the office of West Coast Region Governor’s attended by National Assembly Members of Brikama North and South, the Deputy Governor of the region, CEO of the council, ward councilors, security personnel and the Alkalo of Brikama.
“I think you have done a good job as concerned youths by forwarding your demands to the Area Council and I can assure you that we are going to look into it and that you will surely receive answer,” said Governor Bakary Sanyang
About fifty people sustained injuries and eight arrested during a protest Wednesday On 24 July, 2019 organized by Citizen of West Coast Region demanding better service delivery from the Brikama Area Council (BAC).
The Gambia Red Cross Society WCR (West Coast Region), branch, revealed that about 50 peoples that sustained injuries were referred to the Brikama District Hospital / Health Center for medical treatment.
Dubbed as ‘ #Occupy BAC’ permit application to hold protest was reject, but the organizers insisted to go ahead with the protest due to unbearable condition of West Coast Region markets in various communities.
Protesters were on the streets chanting ‘we want peace’ and ‘BAC must deliver’ later the Anti-riot Police fired tear gas at protesters and chasing them for demanding better service delivery from the Brikama Area Council.
