Lamin Jobe the former Information Minister of the sub-students union of The Gambia College, has said the purpose of establishing the union was to promote unity among the students.
Appealing before the TRRC yesterday, Mr Jobe recalled that the sub-student’s union of the college staged a demonstration following the murder of Ebrima Barry and as a result they summoned meeting to discuss the matter in order to investigate the circumstance surrounding his dead.
Mr Jobe further testified that after their investigation, they briefed the members of the union to stage a peaceful demonstration at the office of the commissioner at the time in order to vent their frustration with regard to the dead of Mr Barry who was tortured by the fire service officials.
The total number of people killed during the demonstration according to Mr Jobe was 14, claiming that live bullets were fired at the demonstrators by soldiers which result to dead of a man next to him. Hearings resume today.
