The West Africa Bird Study Association WABSA with Nema support from CHOSSO project recently planted over mangroves along Jokadou National Parks of Tambana and Karantaba wetland in the north bank region. The planting exercise is the third times WABSA and NEMA CHOSSO project has conducted in the areas to help restore the biodiversity and ecosystem.
Lamin Jobarteh Executive Director of WABSA speaking during planting of mangroves in Jokadou Tambana and Karantaba hailed the communities for their commitment for the restoration of loss forest cover and providing spooning ground for fish.
He disclosed that the project target over 1million mangroves propalges at Jokadou National Park will help restoration of vegetable cover, and by extension empowering communities of Tambana and Karantaba to contribute to the protection ecosystem, biodiversity and to the regeneration of loss mangroves cover to mitigate the effects of climate change.
He noted that mangroves habit create spooning ground for young fish, improve livelihood, habit for indigenous wildlife, improve health and contribute to reduction of sedimentation.
“Tambana and Karantaba remain a focus period as they are found to be highly vulnerable to loss vegetation cover. The destruction of the ecosystem are as a result of due to climate change and human activities along the wetland and therefore serious intervention has contribute to build the capacity of communities on the important of restoring the loss vegetation cover,” he pointed out.
Jobarteh asserted that the planting of mangroves would obviously contribute to serve as sanctuary and spooning ground for fish, minimize salt intrusion, water erosion coastal and marine to enhance climate change resilience building.
He hailed the community of Tambana for their unflinching support and solidarity during the two years campaign in the restoration of mangroves.
He further noted that since its establishment, the association has contributed greatly in creating breeding for birds and boost bird watching game to bring enhance socio economic development.
He also commended Nema CHOSSO project for their support in mitigating the effects of climate change and enhance resilient building.
