Gina Bass has won the women’s 200m at the 12th African Games in Rabat to beat Africa’s fastest sprinter Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou with 22:58 as Ta Lou scooped bronze with 23:00 second, say a statement received from team in Rabat here today Saturday.
The statement said earlier on Bass won silver in the women 100m, making her the most decorated Gambian sprinter ever.
“I feel good. The aim is to make sure when I get to the Doha (world championships) that I’m on point. “My aim for Doha is definitely to be on the podium. For me, its a long season from here so I am hoping my experience will come into play.” The new African 200m champion Bass said.
Bass’s success at the continent’s biggest sporting platform now puts Gambia’s sport in the limelight and the year 2019 will be remember in Gambian history as the most successful sporting year for a country who still struggle to be a giant killer
