Following the dead of former Gambian President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, cross-section of Gambians converged at the National Assembly complex to pay his last respect on earth.
The ex- Gambia leader passed away on 27th August, 2019 at the aged 95. He was buried on 29th August, 2019 at the National Assembly grounds in Banjul. However, the state funeral was attended by a number of dignitaries includes higher government officials, political leaders, diplomats, religious leaders, NAMs, civil society organizations among others.
Addressing the funeral ceremony, President Adama Barrow described Sir Dawda Kaira Jawara as an intelligent statesman, adding that former President Jawara was a champion in human right who fought freedom of Gambians and beyond.
Recounting on Ex- President Jawara live time President Barrow said: “Sir Jawara left a detail book in his live. He was well concern with human right and rule of law and he was a unifying figure for Gambian people.”
President Barrow expressed his sincere appreciation to the former head of state for his kindness, love and for respecting the dignity of Gambians and the world as a whole.
However, on behalf of Gambia President extended his earnest condolence to the Jawara family and assured proper concern for the family. “I Prayed to the Almighty Allah to grand Mr. Jawara paradise,” he added.
Mariama Jack Denton, Speaker of the National Assembly said Gambian has lost a great man, saying former President Jawara is an international symbolic and champion of democracy.
On behalf of the Gambians Madam Jack Denton, Speaker of the National Assembly expressed heartfelt to the Jawara family for leading the country to independent.
She added that former President Jawara had respect for human right and scarified for the Gambia to independent despite the challenges from the country’s colonial masters.
Dawda Jawara, Junior first son of the late Sir Dawda Jawara also described his father as a fair person and always ready to resolve dispute among people, adding all his family can attest to the control and care for his father.
Omar A Jallow, former leader of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) gives a detail on former President Jawara’s political history saying Jawara was a man of the whole country as never tolerates tribalism or religion segregation.
