At least 15 cattle were found dead mysteriously at Madina Giki village in the Central River Region, Gambia National Livestock Association said. The cattle were owned by one Mayan Baldeh.
According to Gambia National Livestock Association (GNLA), the cattle were found death with a hole in between their horns.
It said after an operation test conducted by a veterinarian, found out that the cattle were neither neither poisoned nor killed with a gun. An investigation has been launched into the mysterious circumstances.
Speaking to GRTS on Friday, President of Gambia National Livestock Owners Association Ebrima O Jallow said: “At first they told me they were beaten to death but when we arrived…just looking around in between the two horns you can find out small hole. But when the livestock assistance or the veterinaries in the region came and operated they found inside the head a big hole. Actually outside is small but inside is too big.”
“But if you look at the body there is nothing like beaten but all that happened—happened in the head. I don’t know which object did they use but it must be a very sharp object, they may have used hammer to hammer it inside the head of animals” he assumed.
Mr Jallow said what surprises them is that no sign of refusal were found to had been made by the animals.
Central River Region is prone to cattle rustling in which few weeks about 14 cattle were stolen by the rustlers in the Jimara district.
In Jimara and Fulladu west we have been receiving a lot of complaints about cattle rustling and just recently cattle were stolen from Jimara and we reported them I Senegal, he said.
He called for more help from the Police saying that “we sometimes found it difficult in certain area we really need the support of the Police.”
He called on the National Disaster Management to give support to the owner of the animals, saying that the owner’s source of income was only based on the milk of the cattle and that he is left with only six cattle.
