John Charles Njie, Chairman of Association of Non- Governmental Organization (TANGO) has said that he believed that the 3 years Jotna group should allow to protest peacefully.
A group of Concern Gambians calling themselves 3 years jotna group have threaten to protest if President Adama Barrow fails to honor the three years agreement by the coalition stakeholders.
“I neither have problem with the group of Gambians organizing the December 2 upcoming protest nor those who against that movement, but I believe the 3 year Jotna group should be allow to protest peacefully,” he said during a two-day training aims at strengthening the capacity of CSOs actors on ‘freedom of assembly’ and ‘rights to association in the Gambia’ organised by Initiative for the Promotion of Democracy and Good Governance (IPDG) in partnership with African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDH).
He stressed that: “But if they don’t demonstrate peacefully the law will take it rightful course in dealing with them the way they should be dealt with.”
Be yond 3 year Jotna, he said the nation still have transition in place and said he has serious reservation concerning how the country is governance.
“But the state have a Constitution and Gambians have to be law abiding citizens,” he noted.
According to him, the only mechanism to put the country in right track is to pressure government to do the right at the same time stay on the side of sanity to ensure national development.
He called on Gambians to learn how to dialogue with authorities rather than exercising force on one another.
