Training for GWCC Members on Business Underway

The Gambia Women’s Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Ministry Of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment capacity training GWCC members is underway at local hotel in Senegambia.

The three day training is meant to improve the competencies of private sector representative on trade related activities, which is part of the efforts to implement training need assessment for both public and private sector.

Naffie Barry, President of Gambia Women’s Chamber of Commerce said the training is in line with the GWCC’s vision to provide opportunities and visibilities for Women in business, educate, empower, mentor and promote women’s business as well and  foster meaningful business relationships amongst members.

She pointed out that the training will cover different modules like financial management, source of finance for small businesses.

She added that tt will also cover business management and entrepreneurial skills, strategies for affective credit management and introduction to information technology to small business.

Fatou Manneh , lead  trainer  with Empretec Project, in  her  presentation on Entrepreneurship, said failing to plan means planning to fail, urging business entrepreneurs to set plans first before taking any step forward.

“Entrepreneurs should be opportunity oriented, because for a business you need capital labour, product and commercial nature,’’ she said.

She stressed that, the entrepreneurs in the Gambia have to be creative and innovative in all areas in doing business been it tailoring, Fashion designers, food among others.

They should always try to be part of their business, she added.

She also explained that, the reasons for poor business failure are poor business management, inadequate market information, and disregarding the entity concept of business
