The Bissau Guinean Paramount Head Chief over the weekend addresses his fellow Gambians chiefs at the Regional Education Directorates main hall in Mansakonko, Lower River Region.
Paramount Chief, Agosto Fernandes (Negado) was in the country for a week- long visit through the initiatives of the Gambian Ambassador to the Republic of the Guinea Bissau, Alieu K. Jammeh and Paramount Chief of The Gambia, Alhaji Momodou Bojang.
Bissau Paramount Chief preaches his Gambian fellow chiefs to always be peace makers within their district and the country at large thus stressing that without peace and stability it would be difficult to for the country to achieve rapid develop.
According to Bissau Guinean Paramount Chief, Fernandes, normally it is not the citizens who do cause problems in their countries but instead it is the politicians.
He informed his fellow Gambian chiefs that in Bissau Guinean now, citizens are aware of their civic rights adding that no politicians will use them to the detriment of their fellow country people.
Paramount Chief Fernandes urged Gambians traditional rulers to always preach peace and stability in the country while also gave praises to the Gambian Ambassador to Guinea Bissau, Alieu K. Jammeh for his foresight in trying to foster closer ties between Guinea Bissau and The Gambia.
For his part, the Governor, North Bank Region who is currently overseeing Lower River Region as Governor, Alhaji Ebrima KS Dampha said Gambia and Guinea Bissau have lots in common dated back to days of the ancient Gabu Empire where the two countries are bounded by their common heritage.
“Our traditional and cultural values are intertwined with our common core values of sharing and caring for each other which was clearly manifested during the Bissau war of Independence many Bissau Guinean relocated to The Gambia becoming permanent resident in the country for decades,” Governor Dampha told Bissau Paramount Chief.
He said the visit by the Bissau Guinean Paramount Chief and his delegation was highly welcomed by all Gambians and he assured the visiting Paramount chief and his delegation that Gambians valued their visit.
The Paramount Chief of The Gambia who doubles as the head Chief of Kombo North District, Alhaji Momodou Bojang described Agosto Fernandes and his delegation’s visit as historic, noting that the visit will cement the cordial relationship between the two countries.
Gambian Paramount Chief, Bojang called on his fellow chiefs in The Gambia and Guinea Bissau to always say no to commotions and chaos within their countries and the sub-region in general.
As part of the visit, a Sukuta based Paramount Chief on Monday organized a cultural entertainment in honor of his fellow visiting Paramount Chief and delegation from Guinea Bissau.
