Ex- VP Accuses UDP Leader, Tangara for Her Sacking

Gambia’s former Vice President, Fatoumata Jallow Tambajang has accused the UDP leader Ousainou Darboe and the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Mamadou Tangara of being responsible for her sacking as the Vice President of republic.

Madame Tambajang made these revelations on Kerr Fatou TV Talk Show on Tuesday, alleging that the UDP leader, Ousainou Darboe who was then Foreign Affairs Minister conspired with Dr. Tangara, former UN Ambassador to advised President Barrow to sack her from office.

“I didn’t know the reason for my sacking in the beginning until later when I went to discuss with the President who told me that the reason for my sacking was an advise he got from Ousainou Darboe, former Foreign Affairs Minister and Mamadou Tangara, former UN Ambassador,” Madame Tambajang said.

The former VP explained that President Barrow told her that the reason given by the two (Darboe and Tangara) was in relation to a letter written to the United Nations (UN) which she signed as ‘Acting President’ of The Gambia. “They said that was unconstitutional and undiplomatic,” she remarks.

Madame Tambajang went on to explains a purported fued between herself and Dr Tangara during a visit to the United States which she accused him (Tangara) of corruption involving $21, 000 Dollars car rental deal. The entourage went with $32, 000 US Dollars in the said trip.

“He used that problem to victimise me,” she said.

The former VP also accuses the National Assembly Member for Serekunda, Halifa Sallah of self-aggrandizement by claiming to be the architect of the Coalition 2016. She said there was no need for Hon Sallah to explain the architecture of the Coalition but he should’ve confined himself to the problems of Serekunda.

“I’m not in any competition with Hon Sallah but am just a humble servant who has answered to the call of national duty…He cannot erase that from the history book of our country.”

Madame Tambajang came under criticism after she had led a delegation to the State House to extend President Barrow’s 3 years Coalition Agreement to a 5 year mandate without any consultation with key stakeholders like the UDP, PDOIS and GMC amongst others.
