The Minister of Tourism and Culture accompanied by Director General of Gambia Tourism Board Tuesday evening received the five Gambian chefs who had won the Best Chef and Best Desert of The Year Awards at the just concluded West African Food Festival (WAFFEST) 2019 at the Gambia International Airport.
The festival held in Accra, Ghana brought together chefs from different parts of West African countries which include Gambia, Nigeria, Ghana the host country, Liberia, Benin, Togo among others.
WAFFEST is meant to bring together friends and people of West Africa through their different traditional cuisine and as well showcase their available indigenous dishes from preparation to finish and consumption.
At this year’s edition there were nine contestants included The Gambia, while the participated chefs across West African countries used the opportunity again to showcase their cooking talents and different indigenous meals of their countries.
The Gambia representative at the WAFFEST 2019 edition included a team of professional chefs led by Chef Saikou Bojang President, Chef Musa Darboe of Kololi Beach Club; other members are Assan Demba – Head Chef, Ngala Lodge, Zainab Gomez, Labranda Hotel, and Maimuna Sey of Jarra Kitchens.
The Chefs expressed their happiness and excitement especially to be welcomed home by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Hamat Bah and the Director General of GTBoard Abdoullahi Hydara.
