Ex- APRC Deputy Junta Leader Arrives Set to appear before TRRC

A reliable source has confirmed to The Voice that former Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council (AFPRC) vice chairman Edward   Singhateh has arrived in Banjul on Friday evening and is set to appear before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC)

The Executive Secretary of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission TRRC, Dr Baba Galleh Jallow confirmed the arrival of  the former AFPRC vice chairman Singhateh, revealing that  he  expected to appear before the TRRC sometime during the week, “most likely on Wednesday or Thursday”.

Jallow said Singhateh’s appearance before the Commission on Monday, October 14th is not entirely accurate.

“We wish to inform the general public that speculations and reports making the rounds that former AFPRC vice chairman Edward Singhateh will appear before the Commission on Monday, October 14 are not entirely accurate” he alluded.

Meanwhile Jallow further reiterated that, the session starting Monday will focus on sexual and gender-based violence, adding that the commission hopes to hear testimonies on other issues during the three-week period.

Singhateh is one of alleged perpetrators who has been adversely mentioned in several human rights violations including the killing of the former Finance Minister, Ousman Koro Ceesay, in 1995.

He is also consistently mentioned in the extra-judicial killings of soldiers on November 11th, 1994, following allegations of a coup plot against the junta administration.

Singhateh became Vice-Chairman of the military transitional government led by former Chairman and later, the president of The Gambia Yahya Jammeh. He succeeded Sana B. Sabally who was arrested just about seven months into the transitional government and later jailed for nine years. Sana had earlier testified before the TRRC where he accused the junta leaders of subjecting him to different kinds of torture including forcing him to eat his own excretion.
