Medical Research Council (MRC) The Gambia unit, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has organized a day long open day forum for primordial study pregnancy in the mothers relating to diabetes interventions in low income countries. The forum that brought participants all over West coast region was held at Brikama major health centre recently.
This is the first time to introduce the study to the community of Brikama and its environment, also the first investigation to evaluate the effect of fermented yoghurt and physical activity initiated in early pregnancy and continued to pregnancy on incidence of gestational diabetes in pregnancy and continue in low and middle income countries.
The meeting was chaired by Abdoulie Cham communication officer MRC The Gambia.
Ratatouille Jobe, Administrator officer Brikama Major Health center welcome the participants on behalf of the officer in charge of the Brikama Major Health center said the project very timely.
She explained that the relationship between MRC and Brikama Health center is a long outstanding one, the MRC project which enhances the health of patients.
Rose Mendy, representing the Regional Health Director II said Brikama district health center is the busiest in terms of child and maternal health.
She commended MRC for choosing Brikama Health Centre and while urged the study to be done effectively so that the finding of the study will be extensively shared for better formulation.
Mam Sait Jallow, chief executive officer Brikama Area Council said feel proud to be associated with this very important project saying that the project is significant because it will give them the opportunity to be introduce to the study in Brikama .
