Abdoulie Hydara, Director General of the Gambia Tourism Board has made it cleared that his office will leave no stone unturned as far as the issue of bird strike is concern in destination Gambia.
Commenting on the issue as asked by member of the press on Monday just immediately after receiving the Corendon Airlines maiden flight to the Gambia, he said “there is currently a standing order task force on bird strike issue from the highest level – office of the president, chairing by the British High Commissioner.”
The Director General emphasized on the importance authorities attach to the issue of bird strikes. He disclosed that giant strides were already made and they are working with all the municipalities and all concerned ministries, NEA and also all other relevant stakeholders having responsibilities in management of the bird strike issue.
He went on adding that a lot of improvements were already made within the airport and surrounding as they are fully aware of the dangers of bird strike which “could even worse than the collapse of the Thomas Cook so we are leaving no stone untouched,” he reassured.
However, bird strike becomes a very big issue during last winter tourism season. It almost cause havoc due to the frequent flying of birds that were scavenging for food at the dumping site, though far away from the airport, but within its environment.
