People working at the industry have expressed concern over the ‘3years jotna’ that it might likely affect this year’s tourist season.
Speaking to Bai Faal, an artist and vendor at Bakau Craft Market, said “this three 3years jotna is likely to affect this year’s tourist season “adding that if the situation remains unsolved might caused tourists cancel their trip to the country.
He urged the 3year jotna movement revoke their stance and allow peace to prevail saying “we all know that tourism contributed a lot in the development of the country.”
He also called on the ministry of tourism to make effort and help them about the situation as he said “because this is the place where we make our livings with our family.”
For Hadim Njie, expressed concern over the collapse of Thomas Cook saying that might also affect this year season, adding that “the collapse of Thomas Cook will definitely affect us. Gambia Tourism Board should make a good connection with other companies as we the Vendors and Artist during season is the only time that we make our earnings and support ourselves.”
He mentioned that the way season go that’s the way they will do their best way to create a new fashion way of design for them to promote the culture of Africa.
Fatou joof, a fruit vendor urged the public “to stop taking tourist customers as personal costumers” as she that can cause enmity among vendors.
She said: “it can cause a great loss to their business sometimes they buy fruits but due to lack of costumer’s most of their fruits gets rotten before enough of the week with cause them a great loss because fruit selling is where they get their source of income as their daily basic Loosing profit every week could make a business weak.”
