Malaysia University, Ministry of Fisheries signs D15m Research MOU

The Lincoln University College, Agro technology in Malaysia and the Ministry of Fisheries and Water Resources has signed D15 million researches and educational promotion of marine resources and related industries Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

The MoU meant to strengthen research and educational promotion of marine resources and related industries and also to exchange scientific, investment and technical marine resources, and establish and organize international education and training on marine resources among other many issues was signed  at  the fisheries ministry in Banjul on Thursday.

According to the agreement D3m will be pay to the Ministry of Fisheries and Water Resources under the period  of five  years, revealing  that first payment of D3m already been paid to the Central Bank of The Gambia on Wednesday.

James Furmos Peter Gomez, Minister of Fisheries commended Malaysian Ambassador for his government support, noting that the funding will contribute toward capacity building and employment.

Ambassador Tan Sir Dr. Aixinjueluo also assured his government commitment to strengthen partnership between The Gambia and Malaysia.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry of fisheries, Dr Bamba AM Banja, said the MoU   promote the research, development application and agglomeration of related industries to promote the development of fish farming and processing industries among others.

He said the MoU will also establish, and organize international forum and conference in the field of marine resources.

He described the move as a biggest achievement of his ministry in 2019 and thanks the Malaysia government for the support
