3yrs Jotna Vows to Storms the Streets in December

Sheriffo Sonko, Executive Director of 3years Jotna has vowed that movement will storm the streets in December and hold leaders accountable for what they have promised Gambians.

He said 3years Jotna is a peaceful movement founded by determining Gambians and it emerged Gambia from ending dictatorship in the country.

Sonko made the revelations at a Peace conference organised by AfriCare Initiative (TAI) in collaboration with other peace organizations in The Gambia on 16th November, 2019 at the Coral Beach Hotel.

The two days national dialogue conference was meant to discuss issues relating to the maintenance of peace and reconcile divided Gambians ahead of the proposed December protest which might bring chaos and destabilize the peace of the nation.

It was held under the theme: ”Rethinking and acting on the situations of the new Gambia sensitization on peaceful co-existence ahead of December 2019”

Sonko  stressed that 3years Jotna is not out  to only calls on President Adama Barrow to respect the 3years agreement but they are also telling him that the ‘power belong to the people.’

He disclosed   that 3years Jotna was establish one-year ago by Gambians home and abroad.

“We are not going to use force. If we consent   to this as a tradition to our leaders, they will do it all the time,  leader should not go out and say whether you like it or not am going to stay in power till  2021 because those citizens voted for you..

You should have a peaceful dialogue by telling citizens to allow you to complete the project you start,” he said.

Operation 3years Jotna spokesperson, Hagie Suwanneh, revealed that movement is on it preparation but all in accordance with peace and respect for the rule of law.

“We voted for democracy and democracy has to go with certain responsibilities and part of this is holding leaders accountable and this position of operation 3years Jotna.

“We wants to make sure that there is legitimacy in our democracy for today and tomorrow, and our politicians to be hold accountable , but with respect and maintain of  peace and stability”,  he said noting that  peace is what the movement preach and advocate for.

He added: 3years Jotna will go out and protest if President Adama Barrow didn’t take the necessary steps to honor the promises he made to the citizens during the 2016 campaign, but all with peace.”
