Four armed robbers and buyer of a robbed taxi are currently detain at the Brikama Police station helping the Police in their investigation over the robbery that took place around The Gambia College on Sunday, sources confirmed to The Voice.
Lamin Tunkra, Alieu Dibba, Ala Tunkara and the fourth accused whose name still unknown, Sunday, attacked Momodou Alim Jallow, a taxi driver around the Gambia College, Brikama, West Coast Region. They stabbed him on his chest and back before robbed him off his vehicle, mobile phone and cash amounting to three thousand dalasi (D3000). The four suspected armed robbers are all residents of Brikama.
Momodou Alim Jallow, the victim told The Voice Newspaper that his commercial taxi vehicle was hired by the robbers from Westfield to Brikama, disclosing that when they arrived at The Gambia College his vehicle was forcefully switched off before been assaulted and robbed.
“When we arrived at The Gambia College, one of the robbers sitting next to me forcefully switched off my vehicle, another attacked me by stabbing me on my chest and back. They forced me to come down from my vehicle as they took my mobile and three thousand dalasi (D3000) I was having in my possession”, Jallow explained his encounter with the robbers.
He added: “When they left I decided to report the matter to Brikama Police station while an officer escorted me to the health center for treatment”.
Jallow also confirmed the arrest of his assailants at the Criminal Investigations Division of Brikama Police Station. He confirmed that the four robbers are currently detained and helping the police in their investigations.
He disclosed further that his vehicle has been recovered at Brikama Madina after Police mounted investigation at the checkpoint, adding that one Bai Modou, a Senegalese national has also been arrested and detained for attempting to buy the robbed vehicle from the suspected robbers.
However, when The Voice visited Brikama Police Station to confirm the arrest and detention of the alleged robbers, Police on duty at the CID declined to speak to the press and referred the reporter to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of The Gambia Police Force.
