GRTS Staff Send Banjul NAM To The Cage

By Saidina Alieu Jarjou

It could be recalled that the PPP National Assembly Member for Banjul South, Hon Touma Njie frowned that “all Mosques should be removed from public places.”

However, for Abubacarr Darbo who works for GRTS lambaste the lawmaker that, are Mosques not public places or do she have another definition for public places?. Or is it because she does not understand the intricacies between the State and its people’s belief systems?

“In Europe for example, you have Cathedrals and Churches everywhere, and I mean everywhere including inside University campuses. They are the champions of any idea you want to proffer but for them, there is nothing wrong with that” said Darboe.

“The logic is simple; their predominant religion which is Christianity is part and parcel of their national image and business. In this beautiful country where our religious cohabitation is second to none, we do not only have Mosques at public places which rightly symbolize the predominant religion in the country but other important places that have a bearing on people’s lives like churches, night clubs and bars, are also at public places too”.

“So if not for some discreet objectives best known to you, I wouldn’t see the logic of picking on mosques as your biggest headache. Remember in democracy, the majority always wins and more than 90% of this country is Muslim. So please shift your energy to something meaningful that can benefit you and your community instead of picking a fight you can never win. Certain things are better left as they are we are Muslims and our lives, our happiness, our satisfaction, our living and our death is epitomised by our religion” he added.

He concluded by advising the lawmaker to stay away from our religion. It is all that we have to cherish and protect. Sallal Allaah alaa Muhammad.
