Nearly 200 Abubakarr Siddique Foundation for Needy Orphans Welfare (AFNOW) widows are currently undergoing intensive training on washable sanitary Pads sewing.
The training is underway at Gunjur AFNOW training center in Kombo South District of West Coast Region with the help of “Plan for Gambia” as organizers of the training.
Speaking to the participants shortly before the start of the training session, a member of the “Plan for Gambia” Mrs. Rita Van Laeken explained that their association was set-up in Belgium to improve the livelihood of Gambians and the economic situation of the country in general.
According to Mrs. Laeken their association is focusing on health, education, water supply and gardening while also appealed to the AFNOW widows to take the training seriously.
“Lost your beloved husband is something sorrowful in life but going under this training on washable Sanitary Pads will serve as a source of income to you and your family,” Mrs. Laeken said.
Mrs. Laeken informed AFNOW widows that they can use one sanitary pad in every six hours and it can last for three years without even leaking blood, smell, rough or spoil.
Widows were informed by “Plan for Gambia” member, Mrs. Laeken that the washable sanitary pads they are sewing can only be wash by cold water if it is to last longer.
In 2018 Mrs. Laeken revealed, “Plan for Gambia” started with the design and production of washable sanitary pads and she described the introduction in Gambia as a great success.
Mrs. Laeken highlighted the objective of the new washable sanitary pads which she revealed that new skill centre will be build to design and produce these washable sanitary pads in the country.
The coordinator, Abubakarr Siddique Foundation for Needy Orphans Welfare (AFNOW), Binta Jammeh-Barrow described the initiative as a wonderful gesture.
“This will create a source of income generating avenue for the 200 AFNOW widows here at AFNOW center and let me thank “Plan for Gambia” members for the concern they have for AFNOW widows,” Madam Jammeh-Barrow said.
