Action Against Poverty, a group that seeks to fight against poverty in the country has taken support to communities in Baddibu.
The group donated dozens of cooking iron stoves to communities that aims to protecting and preserving the forest destruction in a bit to combating climate change and helping women off looking for fire woods for cooking
Speaking at the handing over ceremony at Ngain Sanjal, Ali Gaye was speaking at Ngain Sanjal said: “the stoves will reduce pressure on forest resources and whilst the Organization has raised over 6, 000 tree nurseries to be supply in next farming season and aim to improve health of women and girls.”
Sabach Sanjal chief, Malick Bouy commended the group for giving out support to communities in combating deforestation. He called on beneficiaries to be steadfast in taking the lead in the restoration of the forest.
Muhamed Dambele, head of forestry administration circle said the distribution of stoves to farmers would complement forestry department in empowering households, describing the donation as timely.
He said: “it would reduce cutting down of trees for cooking. The alternative use of stoves would help to control domestic fire and reduce the quantity of fuel wood trip for cooking. “
Alieu Ceesay, national director of 4H the Gambia and Lamin A Marena, senior community development assistance for NBR both stressed the need for individuals to get cooking stoves for their families to help reduce burden on consumption of fuel wood. Protection of trees calls for collective efforts in the restoration of forest cover.
