President Barrows newly registered National People’s Party NPP is among the latest and 11th political party to join the Gambia’s political arena and race for 2021.
The NPP accomplishes a long-standing expectation and request by several communities for President Barrow to establish his own political party
Barrow, who came to power in 2016 through a coalition of seven political parties which ousted the exiled former president Yahya Jammeh
Reacting to the development in an interview with The Voice newspaper, many observed that the President of the republic has every right to form his own political party as a citizen of the Gambia.
Others hold divergent views and see the President move as a “betrayal” of the coalition agenda.
Some of the people who also spoke to this medium questioned the Presidents timing, suggesting that the Gambian leader should focus on his development agenda and delivering on his campaign promises.
The National People’s Party is headed by President Adama Barrow as the secretary general and party leader. It’s headquartered at Churchill’s town with a symbol depicting a white horse and dark grey colours.
This medium was not able to gauge the opinion of public officials due to the law barring them from commenting on political issues and other topical trending issues in the country.
