Gambians have been expressing anger over invisible inscription of the international conference center named after Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara.
President Barrow on Saturday inaugurated the 50-million-dollar conference but dozens of Gambians took the street to denounce the unjustifiable oversight of former president Jawara’s name.
Ahmed Manjang on his Facebook comment said “The name inscribed on the building is very visible and it is The Gambia International Conference Center. Will this inscription going to be changed now to capture the name of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara after which it has been named in his honor? Otherwise, this name changing announced by President Barrow will only be verbal or appear to exist in imagination”.
“Well it will make sense for the government to demand for a change. Otherwise, where will be the physical evidence? You will not blame anyone who calls it by the name that is inscribed. All future official invitation letters for events that are going to be hosted in here may also bear The Gambia International Centre and not Sir Dawda if the name change doesn’t occur.” Lamin Sabally stated.
Abdoulie Gassama “If the desire to name the International Conference Center after former president Jawara was advance at the right time this would not have happened. So I am simply asking the President and his entire Government to quickly change and inscribe the name of former President at the entrance of the conference center of easy identification, “he said
