Lawmaker welcomes naming 50m dollar building after Jawara

The national assembly member for Busumbala has welcomed naming the International conference center after former president Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara.

On Saturday, the International conference centre, built at a tune of 50 million dollars, was inaugurated by President Adama Barrow and named after former president Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara international conference centre.

Its name however caused furor in the country as some slammed naming the centre after Jawara as undermining his role in defense of nature as it is built on the dwelling of monkeys.

Speaking to the voice in an exclusive interview, Hon. Saikouba Jarju said: “the government has done the right thing naming such a magnificent building after Sir. Dawda Jawara, this will make Gambians to memorize him.”

If the international Conference center if well utilize it will minimize the perdiem that ministers and Permanent secretaries are using to travel and attend international conferences in other countries, he said.

Hon. Jarju however also added: “eople don’t value anything that belongs to the government, but if there is a separate agency of its own to take care of the structure it will be better, “adding the building will also contribute immensely to the economics of the country.
