A bus carrying passenger was allegedly denied entering into Senegal at the Gambia-Senegal border despite obtaining inter-state road transport license.This happened last Saturday at Amdalai-Karang border crossing point.
Dodou Jobe, a Bijilo resident was barred from crossing border as he was driving passengers into Senegal with a registration no. BJL 0438R.
Speaking to the voice in an interview, Oscom International Manager with business firm in Yoff Dakar confirmed that the bus was denied entering into Senegal with passengers.
He expressed disappointment in the situation as an unfortunate as he said “the Gambia allows vehicles from Senegal to enter the country without any hindrance.”
“Yes, it is true; my bus which was loaded with passengers was denied entry to Senegal at Karang after being given an inter-state road transportation agreement license by the ministry of transportation,” he said.
In an agreed transportation document signed March 13 2018 by two countries states that any vehicle holding an inter-state transportation permit shall not be subjected to payments of taxes, duties or other charges in the state visited except municipal taxes payable with respect of the use of car terminal.
Vehicles holding the inter-state license are exempted from laisser-passer, the document added.
Meanwhile, after series of attempt to reach Ministry of Transport to about the issue turned futile as they couldn’t be reached on telephone.
