Ensa Dampha, official of National People’s Party has said any act to forcefully request the resignation of the president during the planned 3 years “Jotna” movement protest will be term as treason.
“To say we have given the President an ultimatum to resign or be forcefully removed from power is an act of treason. You can never threaten a sitting president that is what the rebels will say, “you vacate your sit or we come for you. I think is very unconstitutionally by asking the sitting president to resign forcefully”. You can exercise your rights to protest and voice out your anger to government that is your limit but to ask for his forceful removal and to say we will come out to protest by force without any permit will be confrontational and term as treason,” he said.
Mr Dampha was speaking in an exclusive interview with the voice in Brikama.
He said the 3 years Jotna movement has already been given the constitutional rights by police to protest against the 5-year term extension of President Barrow adding which was lawful and went peacefully but to demand for another protest in order to ask the forceful removal of the will unlawful and seen as an act of sedition.
“Police have right not to issue permit to the planned 3 years Jotna protesters this time around because of their statement and decision to remove the sitting president by using force. Remember the 1997 constitution is the voice of the people which went on referendum and the five-year mandate is entrench in it. So, we are not going to sit and see out country being put into jeopardy,” he said.
