Our beloved motherland The Gambia in the 21st century has been engulfed in both political and religious debacles since she got divorced from two decades of repression.
A tiny enclave geographically defined as a finger strip into the vast Atlantic ocean with a population of less 2.5 million: has been shrinking under the heels of massive embezzlement of public funds: sky rocketing prizes on consumer goods: catapulted by inflation: mal-functional Governance policies coupled with Rural urban drift since Independence in the name of Democracy?
Men in the history of creation have always been vulnerable to greed and deception due to the influence of Satan! Apparently in most circumstances when leaders are elected into power especially African leaders of which The Gambia is not in isolation act as demos over their Electorates? Democracy has never been Eastern: West: North or South but rather evolution of human experience in struggle: to order and safeguard their right in a manner that ensures the advantage of the society in moral cohesion?
In any Democratic dispensation power lies in the helm of the masses! In as much as the masses are not engaged in decision making about their political or religious obligations: then one wonders how democracy entails within such an atmosphere? The Gambia masses went into the polls on the basis of coalition 2016 MOU: despite our toothache referee is yet unable to level the political playing Field.
