Farmers in north bank region get a multipurpose cooperative society chapter that seeks to address farmers plights in production and marketing areas.
Speaking at the lunching ceremony, Basaikou Kanteh president of farmers’ cooperative chapter expressed delight on the formation of farmer cooperative in the region.
He described the launch of the society to contributing to strengthen farmers capacity and foster stronger relationships with Department of Agriculture and other stakeholders in building capacity of cooperative society to make it more responsive to farmer’s needs.
He praised the Ministry of Agriculture through Department of Agribusiness of empowering farmer’s organizations to cooperative to effectively assist farmers in access to finance.
According to him, the body will provide social services, business and commercial ventures to generate income for the cooperative.
John Mendy, agricultural officer commended farmers for the foresight and noted that the formation of regional cooperative society would help to facilitate input delivery and address marketing challenges of farm produce, livestock and small ruminants.
He said lack of regional cooperative society remain a concerned for regional office and whilst assured of the office fullest support and cooperation.
