The Office of the Inspector General of Police in Banjul, The Gambia, has decided to deny permit to the pressure group, ‘Operation 3 Years Jotna Movement’ (three years reached), due to compelling national security and public safety concerns.
The group organised its first protest and petitioned Gambian leader Adama Barrow to step down on December 16, 2019. In the group petition, the group asked President Barrow to step down on January 19, 2020, and failure to do so the group will take to the streets and force the President out of office.
In a statement made available to The Voice Tuesday and signed by Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Lamin Njie, the government said the decision is based on meticulous security assessment, monitoring and intelligence gathering.
“In this regard, the Office of the Inspector General of Police, acting in accordance with Section 178 of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, will continue to deliver on its mandate of protecting life and properties as well as maintaining law and order.
The public is assured of the highest sense of security, peace and tranquility at all times,” the statement said.
